MSU celebrates International Education Week with food, fun and fellowship

As home to one of the Southeastern Conference’s most diverse student bodies, Mississippi State is celebrating global experiences and cultures with a range of International Education Week activities. Free to all, they include:
—Monday [the 11th], 5-6:30 p.m., Barnes & Noble at MSU. Students, faculty and staff from countries across the world and those interested in studying or learning more about international affairs and cultures can engage in discussion. Refreshments and door prizes will be available.
—Tuesday [the 12th], 6:30-8:30 p.m. Join the Writing Center team for a night full of games, food and laughter at 94 President’s Circle. Prepare for an hour or more of competitive games, culture exchange, and more.
Also on Tuesday, the English Language Institute is hosting its weekly Conversation Connections group, where U.S. and international students, faculty and community members can discuss a variety of cultural topics and current events.
—Wednesday [the 13th], 6-9 p.m., Foster Ballroom, Colvard Student Union. The International Student Advisory Board is hosting the third annual Global Night. Through food, music and dance, various organizations from campus will showcase their cultures and present a deeper understanding of the diversity reflected in MSU’s student body.
—Thursday [the 14th], 4-6 p.m., Foster Ballroom, Colvard Student Union. The Holmes Cultural Diversity Center and the College of Arts and Sciences Institute for the Humanities are hosting award-winning author Sarah Thomsen Vierra for a lecture and panel discussion on “belonging.”https://www.msstate.edu/newsroom/article/2019/11/noted-historian-discuss-relocation-belonging-part-msu-lecture-panel
—Friday [the 15th], 2 p.m., Climate Reality Project student organization will raises awareness of global climate change, environmental and climate justice, and the importance of sustainable energy with a Climate March from MSU’s Lee Hall to Unity Park in downtown Starkville.
Throughout the week, the Study Abroad Photo Contest Gallery will be available on the third floor of Mitchell Memorial Library, with an award ceremony taking place Thursday from 3:30-4 p.m. in Colvard Student Union 330.
Also this week, those interested in participating in the MSU Libraries’ Treasure Hunt are encouraged to pick up questions at the library’s Access Services desk, with the winner receiving two free tickets to attend concerts at MSU Libraries’ 2020 Charles H. Templeton Ragtime and Jazz Festival.
Additionally, Delicious DestiNATIONS will be featured from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. daily in Perry Cafeteria, including Middle East, Caribbean, Mexican, South Korean and Japanese cuisine. The International Institute’s U.S. Passport Acceptance Facility also is accepting passport applications (requirements and fees available atwww.international.msstate.edu) throughout the week from 9-11:30 a.m. in Allen 116.
“The worldwide celebration of International Education Week offers opportunities for people on campus and in Starkville to interact with people from all around the world and get to know their cultures and experiences to develop broader understanding of our global society,” said Kei Mamiya, Holmes Cultural Diversity Center program coordinator. “We encourage students especially to get out of their comfort zones, explore the world, and find new possibilities in their future.”
