Admission Requirements

Our students come from diverse backgrounds but share a common commitment to educational success. In making our admissions decision, we look for and consider factors that emphasize academic performance and preparation.
For Full Admission, students must have all of the following admission requirements:
  • At least a B average
  • Core 40 or Academic Honors Diploma (or an out-of-state equivalent)
  • SAT scores or ACT composite scores at or above the Indiana State average. Students who are 21 years of age or older are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores unless they are admission requirements to a specific program
  • Students who do not qualify for full admission may be reviewed for conditional admission.
  • Students are offered conditional admission on a case-by-case basis. A conditional admission factors include GPA, diploma type, SAT/ACT scores. To be considered, all students must have a 2.0 GPA or higher on a Core 40/college prep diploma or GED score of 530/TASC score of 573.

  • Official college or university transcripts from all previously attended institutions
  • Average or above-average achievement at the previous college (at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale).

  • Student Behavioral Standards Review of Prior Conduct

    IU South Bend is committed to maintaining a safe environment for all members of the university community. As part of this commitment, the university requires applicants to disclose any and all of the prior conduct activities listed here. You must disclose on your application for admission if you:
    1. Have been subject to formal disciplinary action (including, for example, but not limited to, suspension or expulsion) for academic or nonacademic reasons at any high school, postsecondary institution, college, or university.
    2. Have been charged or convicted of a crime (or a foreign legal equivalent) that has not been expunged by a court.
    3. Have any currently pending criminal charges (or a foreign legal equivalent) against you.
    4. Have engaged in any behavior that caused injury to any person(s) or property (including, for example, but not limited to, vandalism or behavior that led to a restraining order against you) that resulted in some form of discipline or intervention.
    You will not automatically be denied admission to IU South Bend if you have a previous conviction or a previous disciplinary action.
    Students who disclose having been subject to disciplinary action at a former educational institution are required to submit the Certification of Good Standing. This form should be signed by the applicant and then submitted to the appropriate institution for completion.
    Those answering affirmatively to any of the other background questions posed are required to submit the Student Behavioral Standards questionnaire, together with legal documentation and a letter of reference. These documents will be reviewed by the Student Behavioral Standards committee before a final admission decision is made. It can take up to four to six weeks for the this committee to review completed files.

  • Guest students are students enrolling for a semester or summer session as visitors from another institution.
    • Official college or university transcript indicating good academic standing. Other acceptable documents are a letter of good standing or the most recent grade report from the home institution.
    • Average or above-average achievement at the home institution (at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale)
    • Students between their senior year in high school and their freshman year in college must submit a letter of acceptance from their home institution.
    • Students intending to enroll in computer science, English, mathematics, or a course in the natural sciences must show evidence of required prerequisites or complete IU South Bend's placement examinations.
