Here are five great reasons to apply for a master’s degree at UiB.
1. Study your master's at UiB - quality education
UiB offers high-quality education and does not charge any tuition-fees. This way you benefit from free of charge first-hand learning, whether you'll take part in lectures, field trips or research in of UiB's labs. You'll have the opportunity to be taught by lecturers who are active researchers among the international elite in their academic fields. UiB contains several Research Centres of Excellence and is the most frequently cited university in Norway.
2. Proximity to nature
Whether your studies or your leisure demand field trips and excursions, Bergen is situated in a gorgeous natural setting. Surrounded by mountains, it sits on a long coastline, Bergen offers abundant opportunities to be outdoors with nature at your doorstep.
3. Thesis year
All of our master’s programmes have a duration of two years. Generally, one full year of the programme is devoted to writing your master’s thesis. This means you have an entire year to delve deep into a field and focus on the research that you’re truly passionate about. While the thesis is your independent scientific work, you will have your own academic supervisor guiding your efforts throughout the second year.
4. Private working space
Master’s students at UiB get access to a private desk within their faculty during their two-year programme. Some even get their own working space in shared departmental offices. These offer you the opportunity to connect with other students in your faculty, as well as providing a stable study area where you needn’t compete with other students for space.
- Johannes from Germany thought it was a great advantage that all master's students get their own desk
5. International learning environment
The University of Bergen has earned a reputation as Norway’s most international university. UiB has over 30 years of experience in building relationships and cooperating with international universities. This focus is reflected in our staff, students and research. Almost 12 % of our students and more than 20% of UiB staff are originally from another country than Norway. We host close to 2000 international students here at UiB. All of this creates a truly international and dynamic learning environment.
